Freeport Theatre debuts 'Rivertown Firemen's Jubilee'

Sharon and Courtney Riffer rehearse a scene in the Freeport Theatre Festival's production of “Rivertown Firemen's Jubilee,” which opens Friday.

ALLEGHENY TWP, Westmoreland County — Freeport Theatre Festival will premiere “Rivertown Firemen’s Jubilee,” a new play by Drew Fennell of the River City Brass and the theater’s resident playwright, Rennick Steele.

On Aug. 4, Fennell and the Gibbons Big Band recorded the score of the musical in the theater so that the sound would be true to the space.

The play is about volunteer firemen who risk their lives to save their neighbors and who also happen to be members of a famous firemen’s band.

The cast includes Melissa Kenton and Ed Janoski, both of Sarver; Lisa Camerlo-Myers of Freeport; Courtney Riffer, Sharon Riffer and Jacob Riffer, all of East Vandergrift; Rennick Steele and Shannon Sloan, both of Allegheny Township; Jim Neal of Ford City; Jonathan Vertosick and Christopher Vertosick, both of Tarentum; Rik Billock and Dave Ross, both of Vandergrift; and Emily Duncan of Leechburg.

Performance are set Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well as Aug. 30 and 31 and Sept. 1, 6, 7 and 8. Curtain is at 8 p.m.

The theater is on the Steele Farm at 2498 White Cloud Road, two miles south of Freeport off Route 356.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for senior citizens and $10 for students.

The Footlights Gallery will feature artists from “The Canvas” in Freeport.
