Charlotte Irene Carless, 84, of Slippery Rock passed away Wednesday at Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born on Nov. 8, 1928, in Sharon to Robert Raymond Dempsey and Hilda Evelyn Freeman Dempsey.

She married Milton Earl Carless on May 29, 1954, and he preceded her in death on May 31, 1985.

She was a graduate from both Butler High School and The Presbyterian University School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse and did graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh.

She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City. Charlotte was an avid golfer, reader and bridge player.

She is survived by her beloved Pomeranian named Co Co Chanel.

Before retirement she was employed by the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) in Butler as a weekend R.N. coordinator.

Earlier in her life, she was active along with her husband, Milton, in The Butler Little Theatre. In addition, she had been quite active helping her husband at Slippery Rock University in theatrical productions.

Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Lea Hitchman and her husband, John, of Glenshaw, Pa.; a son, Charles “Chuddy” William Carless and his wife, Tina, of Evans City; and four grandchildren, Douglas J. Hitchman, Erica Rae Miller, Jessica Antonette Miller and Steven Matthew Carless.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert F. Dempsey.

Carless — Charlotte Irene Carless, who passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, will be entombed at Butler County Memorial Park. A private memorial service will be later.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Slippery Rock.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Lung Association, 3001 Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
