Rita C. Schachtel, 98, of Chicora passed away at 5:10 p.m. Saturday at the Chicora Medical Center.

She was born July 2, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late John J. Zeilmann and Emma (Turner) Zeilmann.

Mrs. Schachtel was a homemaker and was a member of the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed the company of animals, especially dogs.

Mrs. Schachtel is survived by one son, Kenneth Schachtel of Bethpage, N.Y.; one daughter, Eileen M. Beale of Butler; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mavon A. Schachtel, who she married Jan. 11, 1947, and who passed away Dec. 18, 1975; one brother, Joseph Zeilmann; and one sister, Margaret Marlin.
