Elsie June Hays, 91, of Butler passed away Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 17, 1921, in Chicora, the daughter of the late Samuel Vance Stroup and Alice (Riggle) Stroup.

Elsie was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of Tanglewood. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting and doing other crafts.

Surviving are two daughters, Melanie J. (Frank) Pelkofer of Karns City and Nancy (Carl) Frank of Allison Park; a son, Robert A. Hays of Butler; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evalyn Schrecengost of Ohio, Eleanor (Walter) Boosel of Chicora and Dixie Reimold of Butler; and a brother, Richard Stroup of Chicora.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin R. Hays; daughter-in-law, Sharon Hays; and four brothers.

HAYS — Friends of Elsie June Hays, who passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013, will be received at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Services will be at the Zion Lutheran Church, 266 Zion Church Road, Chicora, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. There will be viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
