The Butler County Bears (7-3) will host the Jackson Silverhawks in a first-round Ohio Football League playoff game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Butler's Memorial Park.

BUTLER TWP — The Butler Sting 16-under travel fastpitch softball team recently finished its summer season with three third-place finishes, one runner-up and one first-place finish.The tournament win qualifies the Sting for a 2014 ASA World Series berth.Team members include Jennifer Miller, Noel Pfabe, Emily McDonald, Clara Stoughton, LeeAnn Gibson, Alyssa Gibson, Kaitlin Barnett, Ashley Coon, Madi Graham, Brittany Coyle, Hope Wonderling, Rachel Rebmann, Lindsay Michael, Allie Green, Alexis Schmeider, Cheyenne Hindman and Gabrielle Harold.

PHILADELPHIA — Chase Utley and the Phillies agreed to a contract extension that could keep the five-time All-Star in Philadelphia through at least the 2015 season, two people familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.The contract hasn’t been finalized. The deal reportedly is worth around $27 million over two seasons.
