Alma Lowery

Alma J. (Kivine) Lowery, 99, passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving and caring family on April 6 at the Freedom Village Health Center in Bradenton, Fla.

Born on Nov. 7, 1913, in New Castle, Pa., she was the youngest daughter of the late Otto and Emma (Mackey) Kivine. She was the last living member of her generation.

She was a graduate of New Castle High School and attended beauty operator school in Pittsburgh.

She married the late Howard “Hud” Lowery on April 23, 1938, and moved to Meridian in 1940, where they lived for 34 years. She operated a beauty shop in her home for numerous years.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Butler. She enjoyed golfing at Armco Country Club, gardening, bridge and crafts. After Hud's retirement from Armco in 1973, they moved to Bradenton, Fla. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing golf, bridge and the card game Liverpool.

Surviving are her three children, Judy Todd and her husband, David, of Butler, Karen Tinstman and her husband, John, of Bradenton, Fla., and David Lowery and his wife, Pat, of Sarasota, Fla. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jeff Tinstman and his wife, Dawn, of Fredonia, N.Y., John Tinstman Jr. of Dunkirk, N.Y., Susan (Todd) Duker and her husband, Dan, of Gibsonia, Greg Todd of Butler, Jonah Lowery and his wife, Jill, of Bradenton, Fla. and Jennifer Lowery of Jacksonville, Fla. She also has seven great-grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew Tinstman, Katie, Hailey and Morgan Duker and Sarah and Alexandra Lowery. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, and her loving caregiver, Fran Bailey.

In addition to her parents and husband, who passed away on July 22, 1993, she was preceded in death by five sisters and two nephews.

LOWERY — Private services for Alma J. (Kivine) Lowery, who passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013, will be held for her family. Interment will take place in Butler County Memorial Park.Local arrangements were assisted by the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E.
