Dorothy Ruth Sheehan Thompson, 88, of Slippery Rock passed away Tuesday at the home of her son, H. Scott Thompson, surrounded by her family.

She was born June 20, 1924, in Bradford, McKean County, the daughter of the late Thomas Eugene and Ruth Grace McAlpine Sheehan.

Dorothy was a member of the Butler congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She devoted her life to volunteer work in teaching others about God’s kingdom and the wonderful promises held in the Bible. How happy she will be when she is again reunited with family and friends.

She was a homemaker, “the ultimate mom and grandmother” who loved to entertain family and friends at her home by baking, cooking in general, playing games and general fellowship. She did volunteer work at various nursing homes in the local community.

She is survived by her husband, Harold L. (Dick) Thompson; three sons, Kelly S. and Juanita Lintz Thompson of Slippery Rock, Timothy B. Thompson of Pittsburgh and H. Scott and Denise Geyer Thompson of Slippery Rock; seven grandchildren, Amber Marie Thompson, Adrienne Kelley Thompson Devlin, Elizabeth Megan Thompson Mikus, Caleb Levi Thompson, Matthew Raine Thompson, Anna Courtney Thompson and Micah Trenton Thompson; and three great-grandchildren, Dakota Skye Sadie Lynn, Madison Grace Devlin and Connor Liam Devlin.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Roy and Thomas Sheehan; her twin brother, Donald Sheehan; one grandson, Beau James Thompson; and a great-grandson, Logan James Scott Devlin.

Thompson — There will be a visitation for Dorothy Ruth Sheehan Thompson, who passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Butler Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 157 Unionville Road, Butler, PA 16001.Interment will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates in Mount Chestnut.
