PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh board of trustees has voted to raise tuition 3.25 percent for students attending its main campus, and 2 percent for students at three of its satellite campuses.

Today's vote means in-state students at the main campus school of arts and sciences will pay $15,985 this year, an increase of $255. Out-of-state students at the same school will pay $413 more, or $25,420 next year.

Satellite campuses in Bradford, Johnstown and Greensburg will see the 2-percent increase, with tuition at Pitt-Titusville remaining the same.

COUDERSPORT — A northern Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for fatally shooting his ex-wife, a church organist, during a Sunday service.Gregory Eldred, 53, of Coudersport, apologized Tuesday and told a Potter County judge he was acting “irrationally” due to an unspecified situation he was dealing with at the time.Eldred pleaded guilty last week to first-degree murder for shooting 53-year-old Darlene Sitler, while she was serving as the organist at the First United

Eldred was an elementary school music teacher, while Sitler taught music at the Northern Potter Children's School.Nobody else was injured in the shooting, after parishioners and the pastor came to Sitler's aid.

PITTSBURGH — A University of Pittsburgh student has died while studying abroad in Spain, where she was participating in an internship with a technology firm.Pitt spokesman Cara Masset says the U.S. State Department notified the university of the death of Oeshae Morgan, who is from Washington, D.C.Pitt officials have referred questions to the State Department, which has released no additional information.Morgan was to have turned 21 on Sunday, but her family was notified of her death on Friday.Morgan's grandmother, Karen Williamson, said the family was told Morgan's body was found in a courtyard near her residence and that her death appeared to be an accident.
