Robert Edward “Bob” McLay, 76, of Zelienople passed away Wednesday with family by his side while under the care of the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 6, 1936, in Patton Township, he was the son of the late Robert E. McLay Sr. and Ida (Ribert) McLay.

Bob graduated from the Turtle Creek High School. He worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as an electrician for 32 years, and in 2000 retired from his work at the Mayview State Hospital. He was also a retiree of the PA State Union, AFSCME, as well as a retired EMT. He was an active member of the Masonic Motorcycle Club Chapter 6, a member of the Western PA Retreads for 25 years and a member of the Zelienople Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years, where he also served as president for eight years.

Bob enjoyed square dancing at the Keystone and Butler Squares. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, taking trips to the beach with his family, camping in his Airstream and Motorcycle Camper, and taking joy rides on his motorcycle for over 10,000 miles each summer.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, LaVonne (Helman) McLay; his three children, Beverly McLay of Clifton, N.J., Nancy Pepper and her husband, Gary, of Belgium and Wayne McLay and his wife, Tammy, of Zelienople; his sister, Evelyn Herdt of Illinois; and his three grandchildren, Jenna McLay, Rick Pepper and Malinda Pepper.

MCLAY — The family of Robert Edward “Bob” McLay, who passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Peggy Suhr-Barkley, officiating.Interment will follow at the Restland Memorial Park, Monroeville.If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Bob's honor in support of the Zelienople Public Library, 227 S. High St., Zelienople, PA 16063 or to the Zelienople Volunteer Fire Department, 111 W.
