ADAMS TWP — The Mars Athletic Hall of Fame’s Class of 2013 includes five members: Ed Best, Brad Mueller, Scott Heinauer, Don Wix and Christine (Holmes) Bocian.

This year’s inductees will be honored at a banquet at Mars Middle School prior to the Planets’ home football game Sept. 13 against Indiana. They will also be recognized on the field before kickoff. Tickets are $20 and include admission to both the banquet and game.

Legion playoffs continue ThursdayThe Butler County American Legion Baseball playoffs will continue Thursday.Winner’s bracket games feature Center Township vs. Meridian at Pullman Park , and Butler City at East Butler.Loser’s bracket games pit West Sunbury at Saxonburg and Valley at Slippery Rock.

Stafford, Lions agree on extension DETROIT — Matthew Stafford’s career with the Detroit Lions just got longer.Stafford and the Lions have agreed to terms on a $53 million, three-year extension to keep him under contract through 2017, according to a person familiar with the deal.Stafford will reportedly make $41.5 million in guarantees as part of a new contract.

NHL adding 5 to Hall of Fame TORONTO — Defensemen Scott Niedermayer and Chris Chelios, along with forward Brendan Shanahan will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.They’ll be joined in the class of 2013 by Geraldine Heaney, the third woman to be enshrined in the hall, and coach Fred Shero, who led the Philadelphia Flyers to the Stanley Cup in 1974 and `75. He was selected posthumously in the builder category.

WTT’s Kastles topp Lakers’ streak WASHINGTON — As far as the Washington Kastles are concerned, a place in sports lore long associated with Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West and Co. now belongs to Martina Hingis, Leander Paes and the streamroller of a team that dominates World TeamTennis.The Kastles won their 34th consecutive match, routing the Boston Lobsters 25-12. The streak is one better than the storied run of the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers.
