David J. Schmeider, 85, formerly of Cabot and Meridian, passed away at 7 a.m. Monday at Fair Winds Manor in Sarver.

He was born June 18, 1927, in Cabot, to the late Joseph W. Schmeider and Louise (Menken) Schmeider.

Mr. Schmeider was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II with the 63rd Medical Depot Company in France.

He worked in the Track Maintenance Department at the U.S. Steel Saxonburg Sintering Plant for 26 years, retiring in 1984.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class. Mr. Schmeider was an avid hunter and gardener.

Mr. Schmeider is survived by his wife, Frances (Corbin) Schmeider, who he married May 21, 1949; one son, D. Patrick Schmeider of Butler; three daughters, Karen Lepp and her husband, Eric, of Merritt Island, Fla., Kim Skyzinski and her husband, Leonard, of Cabot, and Kathleen Ehrhart and her husband, Richard, of Bethlehem, Pa.; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. One brother, Joseph Schmeider of Cabot; one sister, Annabelle Nemeth of Butler, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Schmeider — Friends of David J. Schmeider, who passed away Monday, June 3, 2013, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor David Maitland of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the First Baptist Christian School, 221 W.
