Joan M. Vogel, 89, of Bakersfield, Calif., formerly of Garden Grove, Butler, died Monday.

Born Oct. 27, 1923, in Leeper, she was a daughter of the late John Ochs and Mary P. (Schmader) Ochs.

Joan graduated from Farmington High School and the Butler Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a retired registered nurse.

She worked for the Butler Memorial Hospital for 20 years, as operating room supervisor and also the night supervisor of maternity.

She was a member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, was a life member of the Butler Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumnae and the Ladies Auxiliary of the South Butler Volunteer Fire Department. She had enjoyed playing tennis, playing piano, crocheting, knitting, reading, working crossword puzzles, being a mother, grandma and great-grandma.

Surviving are her son, Kevin G. (Joni) Vogel of Butler; two daughters, Sandra (William) Moore of Bakersfield, Calif., and Jacquelyn (Rob) Seeley of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Kelly (John) French, Kristy (Jason) Comstock, T.J. (Ashley) Moore, Zachary (Jaime) Seeley, Amanda Seeley, Jesse Vogel, Josh (Allyson) Graef and Dan (Lita) Graef; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Rosemond (James) Curry and Lea Vogel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. “Jack” Vogel, who she married Aug. 21, 1948, and he died Aug. 15, 1997; seven brothers; and three sisters.

VOGEL — Friends of Joan M. Vogel, who died Monday, May 27, 2013, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery, Butler.

St. Paul’s Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 a.m. Monday at the church to recite the rosary.

Memorial donations may be made to the South Butler Fire Department, 98 Old Plank Road, Butler, PA 16001.
