Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, 401 Meadowcroft Road in Avella, Washington County, the oldest site of human habitation in North America, will host an Independence Day celebration on July 4. Through Labor Day, Meadowcroft will be open noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $12 for adults, $11 for senior citizens and $6 for children ages 6 to 17. Heinz History Center, 1212 Smallman St., hosts an exhibition exploring Pennsylvania’s impact on the Civil War, featuring 150 artifacts, six lifelike museum figures, and a 26-foot Rodman cannon, through Jan. 5. Admission to the exhibit is included with the regular History Center admission of $15 for adults, $13 for senior citizens age 62 and older, $6 for students and children ages 6 to 17, and free for children age 5 and younger. More than 60 fine art jewelry pieces inspired by nature are on display in “Garden of Light: Works by Paula Crevoshay” through Aug. 11.
