Maridon schedules children's programs
The Maridon Museum will host two events for children.
The first will be “Origami” from 1 to 2:30 p.m. July 9, presented by Dixie Lipnichan, a Japanese language and world cultures teacher from Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School.
Participants will learn the traditional art of Japanese paper folding.
Children age 8 and older may attend. Cost is $5, and reservations are required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The second program will be “Kamishibai,” or storytelling, from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 6. Lipnichan also will be presenting this program .
This second program will include the traditional Japanese Kamishibai story “The Mouse’s Wedding.” The day also will include hands-on activities such as making chopsticks and candy sushi and learning how to use chopsticks.
Those age 5 and older may attend. Cost is $5, and reservations are required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Regular museum hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students, and free for children younger than 8. Guided tours are available with advanced notice for no extra charge. The Maridon is at 322 N. McKean St.
