Ernest 'Ernie' Myers

Ernest “Ernie” Myers, 96, of Portersville died Thursday night at his home.

He was born in Muddy Creek Township on Aug. 18, 1916, and was the son of Norman R. Myers and Mable J. Boozel Myers.

He was retired from Armco Steel in Butler after 42 years as a pipe fitter/processing maintenance.

He also was the former owner of the Myers Brothers Feed store in Portersville and the former owner of the Myers Brothers Grocery Store, now Cals General Store, in Portersville.

He was a 69-year member of the Portersville Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder.

He was a member of the Portersville Keenagers and had been a member of the Portersville Rotary Club.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Beighley Myers, who he married Aug. 28, 1943; one son, Richard (Sandy) Myers of Rockledge, Fla.; two daughters, Sue Haggerty and her husband, Frank Ballina, of Saxonburg and Beth Patton of Portersville; grandchildren, Mark (Felicia) Myers of Rockledge, Matt (Clara) Myers of Chico, Calif., and Jessica Patton of Muncie, Ind.; step-grandchildren, Shaney Haggerty-Mitchell, Tabitha Ward, Natasha Ward, Rachel (Terry) Ballina Buck and Frankie Ballina; great-grandchildren, Danny Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, Tara Buck, Leah Buck and Alyssa Osborne; and niece, Connie (Ben) Myers-Kossack.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Mable Myers, and his brother, Willard Myers.

MYERS — Visitation for Ernest “Ernie” Myers, who died Thursday, May 16, 2013, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Jay Bryan Funeral Home, 443 Main St., Prospect. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Portersville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dana Opp officiating. Burial will be in the Portersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Portersville Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
