Lillian L. Reed, 88, formerly of East Metzger Avenue, Butler, passed away at 4 p.m. Monday at the Bartley Nursing Home, Jackson, N.J., after a long illness.

She was born Sept. 7, 1924, in Scienceville, Ohio. She was the daughter of Russell M. Young and Mary Beham Young.

She was a graduate of Union High School in Rimersburg and the Butler Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

She served as a cadet nurse at the Newton D. Baker Army Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va., in 1945 during World War II, as a registered nurse at Butler Memorial Hospital and as a private duty registered nurse until her retirement in 1982.

She was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Voyagers Class. Later she was a member of the Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church. Mrs. Reed enjoyed flower gardening, music, reading, birding and antiques.

She was married in the Rimersburg Reformed Church on Nov. 28, 1946, to Clifford R. Reed, who passed away on June 3, 2001.

Surviving are a son, the Rev. James C. Reed, pastor of the Rose Hill Methodist Church, Rose Hill, N.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Jon (Kathleen) Macrina of Willimantic, Conn., and Mrs. David (Annette) Burns of Freehold, N.J.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

REED — Friends of Lillian L. Reed, who passed away Monday, May 13, 2013, will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with her son, the Rev. James C. Reed, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Avenue of the Flags, Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Seneca Hills Bible Conference, 267 Damascus Road, Polk, PA 16342.
