School safety hearing set Thursday at SRU

SLIPPERY ROCK — School safety will be the focus of a hearing Thursday at Slippery Rock University of the state House Select Committee on School Safety and Security.

The hearing, which will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 315 of the Robert M. Smith Student Center, will have testimony to help develop and examine policies to enhance safety in schools around the state.

Several school officials, law enforcement officials and others will provide testimony, including SRU Police Chief Michael Simmons and acting State System of Higher Education Chancellor Peter Garland.

This is the third of three hearings. Others were in Harrisburg and Delaware County.
