Robert P. “Bob” Rosander, 92, passed away Sunday at Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople.

He was born in Harlem, N.Y., a son of the late Hugo and Sophia Danielson Rosander.

Bob served as a torpedoman in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Philippine Islands.

He was an apprenticed tool and die maker by trade. His career in the steel drum industry spanned close to six decades and took him and his family across the central East Coast, landing them in Wexford in 1974 when he joined Calig Steel Drum in McKees Rocks as plant engineer, where he remained until his retirement in 1985.

After retiring, he relocated to Surfside Beach, S.C., with his wife, Doris, and still continued to consult for another decade in the industry he so loved and the profession he so relished. The couple enjoyed a happy and sunny retirement for close to 20 years in Surfside. Bob returned to the local area in 2009 to live at Passavant Retirement Community.

Survivors include a son Kurt Rosander (Colleen); two daughters, Jill Murray and Robin McAtee (Greg); seven grandchildren, who adored their grandpa “Pop,” Shannon and Lisa Rosander, Chris Vendilli (Tracey), Rachel, Josiah, Abigail and Sarah McAtee; one great-granddaughter, Natalie Vendilli; and a sister-in-law, Dolores Leming.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Doris Leming Rosander; his parents; one brother; and three sisters.

ROSANDER — Friends of Robert P. “Bob” Rosander, who passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and from 7 until the time of a prayer service at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George A. Thoma Funeral Home, 10418 Perry Highway, Wexford. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Lutheran Senior Life Foundation, 401 S. Main St., Zelienople, PA 16063.
