Glass adds to spectacle of summer flower show

Giant sunflowers with petals, seeds and leaves made from glass tower over the summer flower show at Phipps Conservatory.

PITTSBURGH — Phipps Conservatory's summer flower show called “Glass in the Gardens” runs through Oct. 6, featuring the talents of Pittsburgh-based glass artists.

The show offers passion flower vines and blooms made of glass as well as stained-glass towers lit from within to reveal patterns that complement orange, pink and purple flowers.

Also, a butterfly forest will be open through Sept. 2, offering the opportunity to see species such as monarchs and zebra longwings emerge from their chrysalises and take flight.

Phipps Conservatory at One Schenley Park is open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and until 10 p.m. Fridays.

Admission is $15 for adults, $14 for senior citizens and students, and $11 for children ages 2 to 18. Members and children younger than 2 are admitted free.

For information, call 412-622-6914 or visit phipps.conservatory.org.
