Dorothy Smith

Dorothy A. Smith, 88, of Mars, formerly of Evans City, died Thursday morning at the LAS St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.

She was born in Pittsburgh on Feb. 26, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Clement and Anna Pavlichko Medvedo.

Dorothy created window displays and painted signs for Kaufmann’s and Boggs and Buhl department stores in Pittsburgh and had worked for Jaffee’s in Butler.

She was a member of the Mars Rod and Gun Club, and she enjoyed oil painting.

Surviving are her son, Jan O. Smith, and his wife, Bonnie, of Penn Township, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde O. Smith, who died on Nov. 28, 1963; her sister, Helen Bufahl; and two brothers, Paul and Stanley Medvedo.

SMITH — Friends of Dorothy A. Smith, who died Thursday, April 11, 2013, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Services will follow at 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Peter deVries, pastor of the Old Union Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
