Michigan man killed in I-80 crash

WOLF CREEK TWP, Mercer County — A Michigan man was killed early Wednesday morning in a crash involving a semi truck on Interstate 80.

According to state police, the semi truck, a 2004 Freightliner, was pulling a trailer with three flat tires at a slow speed. Rubber from the flat tires disabled the trailer’s rear lights.

Michael Karl Holder, 55, of Lansing, Mich., driving a 1993 Mercury Villager, approached the truck from behind about 3:36 a.m. and collided with the rear bumper of the trailer causing both drivers to lose control of their vehicles.

Holder was taken to the Grove City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:46 a.m. The Mercer County Coroner’s office listed the cause of death as injuries to his abdomen.

The driver of the truck, Wilfredo Suarez, 53, of Clifton, N.J., was not injured.

State police in Mercer are investigating.

The eastbound lanes of I-80 between Exit 24 in Mercer County to Exit 29 in Venango County were closed until about noon on Wednesday.
