SRU ousted in tourney

JOHNSTOWN — Two losses at the PSAC Tournament Thursday in Johnstown ended the Slippery Rock University baseball team’s season.

A 5-0 setback against Millersville was followed by a 9-3 loss to Gannon, ousting The Rock from the double-elimination tournament.

In Thursday’s first game, SRU tallied just four hits against Millersville’s Tim Mayza, who pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and just one walk.

The Rock’s deficit was just 1-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but starting pitcher Lou Trivino gave up three runs on three hits in that frame.

Despite three hits from Will Kengor and two apiece from Kevin Jovanovich and Jake Nogalo, SRU lost its grip on survival against Gannon.

The Golden Knights led 6-1 after four and a half innings of play and ended the game with 16 hits. Aaron Cox not only picked up the win on the mound for Gannon, but also smacked a three-run home run.

Garret Peterson took the loss for The Rock (31-21).
