James Seagriff

James M. Seagriff Jr., 59, of Freeport passed away Sunday while in the company of family members at the Alle-Kiski Medical Center in Natrona Heights.

James was born in Natrona on July 12, 1953, and was the son of Dorothy E. (Mansfield) Seagriff of Freeport and the late James M. Seagriff Sr.

Jim was a member of the St. Mary, Mother of God Church in Freeport.

He had worked in the casting department at Allegheny Ludlum Steel for 23 years, retiring in 1997.

Jim was a member of the Freeport Borough Council for 25 years and served as president for 20 years. He was on the board of the Alle-Kiski Revitalization Corp. He was a past president of United Steelworkers Local 1196. Jim was very involved with The Butler-Freeport Community Trail and one of the founding board members of the Freeport, Leechburg, Apollo, Regional Main Street Program (FLAG). He was a past member of the Jaycees as well. He enjoyed going to camp, hunting and fishing. Jim loved to watch football, baseball, and hockey games, but Jim’s greatest love was his family.

Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lida M. (Younkins) Seagriff; their three children and spouses, daughter, Michele (Bill) Pacek of Buffalo Township, and two sons, James M. (JoLynn) Seagriff III, of Freeport and Russell T. (Shannon) Seagriff of Freeport; seven grandchildren; Cody Alan, Collin G., Dylan Cole, James Dalton, Caroline Grace, Shane Russell Seagriff and Anthony James Pacek; three brothers Joseph F. (Kathy) Seagriff of Buffalo Township, Edward P. Seagriff of Freeport and David D. (Janet) Seagriff of Allegheny Township; and his sister, Dorothy M. (Ronald) Croker of Brackenridge. Jim also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

SEAGRIFF — Family and friends of James M. Seagriff Jr., who passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the St. Mary, Mother of God Church in Freeport at 10 a.m. Thursday with Father Edward Volz officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in South Buffalo Township.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, 116 North Plaza, Apollo, PA 15613 or to the Salvation Army, 205 S.
