Pittsburgh police check out 3 suspicious devices
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police and bomb squad crews have been busy checking out three reports of suspicious devices found along streets in the city’s South Side neighborhood, but say none of the items proved to be dangerous.
The first call came in late Thursday night, and two more devices have been reported this morning.
Police spokeswoman Diane Richard says one device was blown up by a bomb squad and found to be harmless, and a second device was ruled out as dangerous, though police haven’t said specifically what it was. Officers were still on the scene midmorning for the third report of a device.
Richard says investigators are trying to determine if the reports are related and possibly a prank, or whether the reports are the result of residents who are hyper-vigilant in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings.
