SRU, IUP tied for final PSAC playoff spot

The Slippery Rock University baseball team settled for a split with Gannon on Friday and will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 4 p.m. against the Knights at Jack Critchfield Park with its playoff hopes on the line.

The Rock (30-18, 12-10) and Indiana (Pa.) are tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the PSAC Western Division.

SRU won its first game with Gannon on Friday by a 3-0 margin in nine innings behind a four-hit shutout from Lou Trivino, who struck out a career-high 13 batters.

However, the Knights (22-16, 14-8) tallied a run in the top of the seventh in Game 2 to salvage a 2-1 victory.

Slippery Rock owns the tiebreaker over IUP thanks to taking three of four regular-season matchups.

The Crimson Hawks (26-12, 12-10) are playing California (Pa.) (32-15, 14-8), which is tied for the division lead with Gannon, in a doubleheader Saturday.

SRU’s twinbill with the Knights will feature Rock Baseball’s Military Appreciation Day and Senior Day festivities. Game 2 is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
