Raymond H. “Ray” Groom Sr., 73, of Franklin Park died Friday morning at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born in Mars on April 19, 1939, he was the son of Grant “Tut” and Annaroy Schindler Groom.

Ray was a utility worker for Equitable Gas Company in Ingomar.

He was a member of Orchard Hill Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Wehr Groom, who he married Oct. 27, 1960; two sons, Raymond Groom Jr. and his wife, Beverly, of Franklin Park and Jay Groom and his wife, Cindy, of McCandless Township; his grandchildren, Allison, Brandon, Ryan, Miriam, Katie and Cecilia; his great-granddaughter, Rilee; one sister, Nancy Kushner in North Carolina; two brothers, Leroy Groom and William Groom (Becky), both in Florida; one sister-in-law, Joyce Groom of Mars; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Groom.

GROOM — Friends of Raymond H. “Ray” Groom Sr., who died Friday, March 29, 2013, will be received at McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Services will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Rob Bohnenstengel of Orchard Hill Church officiating.
