Eva Schmidt

Eva Mae Schmidt, 87, of Slippery Rock passed away Saturday at her granddaughter Denise Thompson’s home surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Allegheny County and was the daughter of the late Howard Ross Croop and Della (Hestand) Croop.

Eva was a member of the Butler Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She devoted her life to volunteer work and teaching people about Jehovah God and his son, Jesus Christ. Eva had a strong faith in the Bible’s promise of an earthly paradise. Scriptures such as Psalm 37:10, 11 and 29 and John 5:28 and 29 helped her to look forward to the day when she will be reunited with her family again.

She worked at Spaide Shirt Factory, and she was the head cook at Butler Hospital for a number of years.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ray (Barbara Ann) Geyer of Butler, Dorothy Marie Craig of Stoneboro, Pa., and Mrs. Bill (Alice Jean) Okeson of Butler; a son, William H. and Pattee Schmidt of Butler; a nephew, Howard Croop of Mars; 21 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Schmidt; a daughter, Della Lee Grabe; two grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and a brother, Cecil Croop.

SCHMIDT — There will be no visitation for Eva Mae Schmidt, who passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013.A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Butler Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 157 Unionville Road, Butler.Arrangements are entrusted to the Young Funeral Home, Butler.For more information, go to www.youngfuneralhomes.com.
