Action/horror flick filmed in county released
Filmed in Butler County by Butler County natives, “Death From Above” was released to DVD last month.
Mark Hensel of Butler along with Valencia native Bruce Koehler co-wrote the action/horror film about a Druid demon, played by Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle, risen from beyond and intent upon casting the world back into the Dark Ages.
A blue-collar steelworker, played by James Storm of Spike TV’s “Total Nonstop Action Wrestling,” is tasked with stopping him.
Former professional wrestler Sid Vicious, Tom Savini (“Machete”), Robert Z’Dar (“Tango and Cash”) and Marc MaCaulay (“My Bloody Valentine”) round out the cast.
“Lots of action, sweet hot rods, cool motorcycles and monster trucks make up this adventure,” Hensel said of his first film script.
Scenes for the film were shot in 2010 at locations including the Longhorn Corral Saloon in Franklin Township, Mike Lichina Trucking in Valencia and a farm in Middlesex Township.
Koehler’s North Shore Pictures also filmed and produced the movies “Dark Wake” and “19 Doors” in 2007, “End Game” in 2008 and “River of Darkness” in 2009. For information, visit www.northshore-pictures.com.
