Man claims he had bomb in attempt to rob pharmacy
CRANBERRY TWP — A man who claimed he had a bomb tried to rob a pharmacy on Route 19 Monday night, according to police.
They continue to search for him.
The suspect allegedly walked into the Rite Aid store near the intersection of Route 19 and Rochester Road about 9:25 p.m. Monday and demanded drugs.
Police said the suspect fled before getting any drugs and before officers got there. Officers arrived on the scene and set up a perimeter of the area and a police dog also assisted in the search.
In a press release, township police said the suspect is a white man with a thin build and brown hair. He is likely about 6 high and used a black bandanna to cover his face and blue surgical gloves to cover his hands.
Police also said the man claimed to have a bomb.
In the press release, officers said the bomb “appears to be two silver pipes with wires or a wick and some type of box attached,” according to surveillance video.
Cranberry Township police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said Tuesday that he’s confident officers will be able to apprehend the suspect.
“Somebody is going to recognize (the suspect) out of those photos,” Mascellino said. “As far as surveillance photos go, those are the best we’ve had in a long time.”
Anyone with any information is urged to call police at 724-776-5180.
