Frances Jean Burns

Frances Jean Burns, 87, of Slippery Rock, Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County, passed away Wednesday at the Evergreen Nursing and Rehab Center, Harmony.

She was born March 11, 1926, in New Castle to John Frank Bovard and Marjorie Belle Marstellar Bovard.

She married William Henry Burns on Oct. 11, 1946, and he preceded her in death on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005.

A graduate of the Jameson School of Nursing, she worked at Grove City Hospital, Slippery Rock State College and George Junior Republic of Grove City.

Frances was a member of the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher, elder and member of the choir. She enjoyed spending time with her family, church activities, cooking and her flower garden.

She is survived by her five children, William R. and his wife, Sherilyn Burns, of North Richland Hills, Texas, Richard D. and his wife, Carolyn Burns, of Slippery Rock, Beverly J. and her husband, Rodney Blair, of Slippery Rock, Dennis R. and his wife, Terri Burns, of Slippery Rock and Patricia Burns of Lowell, Mass.; her sister, Marjorie Hunt of Ashland, Ky.; 13 grandchildren, Kayleen Thomason, Kyle Burns, Morgan Burns, Matthew Stewart, Marc Stewart, Zachary Burns, Teresa Firek, Rebecca Hetzer, Ryan Burns, Matthew Burns, Alyssa Burns, Ashley Harris and Rachael London; and eight great-grandchildren, Robbie and Tommy Hetzer, Frank and Amelia Firek, Sean Ryza, Noah Thomason, Cade and Cole Stewart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Arimathea Smith; and her brother, John Bovard.

BURNS — Friends of Frances Jean Burns, who passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.Services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Dr. Stanley Keehlwetter, interim pastor of the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church and dean of chapel at Grove City College, presiding.Memorial contributions may be given to the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, 626 Plain Grove Road, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.
