Yankees turn triple play
NEW YORK — The New York Yankees turned a triple play to quash a rally attempt by the Baltimore Orioles in the eighth inning Friday night, their first at home in 45 years.
With runners on first and second, Manny Machado hit a sharp liner that second baseman Robinson Cano caught on a hop. He tossed it to shortstop Jayson Nix for the forceout. Alexi Casilla, thinking the ball was going to be caught by Cano, got caught in a rundown between second and third base.
Third baseman Kevin Youkilis tagged Casilla and then threw to first baseman Lyle Overbay when Machado ranged too far off first. Overbay then threw to Cano, who tagged Machado.
