Lorna Sonntag

Lorna M. Sonntag, 94, of Grove City passed away at 9:20 p.m. Saturday at Concordia at the Orchard, Butler.

She was born Nov. 2, 1918, in Sharpsville, Pa., and was the daughter of Martin L. King and Pearl M. O'Donnell King.

She married George A Sonntag on Aug. 8, 1951, and he died March 8, 2002.

She was a homemaker and formerly a secretary at the Sharon Steel Corp. for many years. At the age of 50, Lorna enrolled at Westminster College and graduated with a degree in teaching. She taught school at Dassa McKinney Elementary School in the Moniteau School District for the next nine years.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in America, Washington Township, Lawrence County.

She is survived by three children, John Gills and his wife, Barbara, of Houston, Texas, Caryl Vlah and David Zibrat of Butler and Shirley Richards of West Middlesex; five grandchildren, Kelly Campbell of Edinboro, Michelle Vlah and her husband, Al Guggisberg, of Healy, Alaska, Kirk Gills of Dallas, Texas, Ryan Gills of Huntsville, Ala., and Ashley Rupert and her husband, Dan, of Mercer; five great-grandchildren, Emma, Aimee and Claire Campbell, and Karsyn and Luke Rupert.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her grandson, Bradley Richards; her son, James Sonntag; two brothers, Donnell and Martin King; and one son-in-law, Paul Richards.

SONNTAG — Friends of Lorna M. Sonntag, who passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, Grove City. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Steve Tipton officiating. The burial will be at Crestview Memorial Park, Inc., Grove City.
