Mid-Am champ Smith ready for Masters
St. Jude Golf Club member and North Hills resident Nathan Smith will tee it up in the Masters for the fourth time Thursday morning.
Smith, 34, a Brookville native, will play his first two rounds at Augusta National with 1988 Masters champion Sandy Lyle and John Peterson, who was fourth at the U.S. Open last year.
Smith earned a spot in the Masters by winning his record fourth U.S. Mid-Amateur Tournament title in October. He also competed in the Masters in 2004, 2010 and 2011. He missed the cut by two strokes in 2004 and 2010.
Only 16 golfers in history have won more USGA titles than Smith’s four. Tiger Woods and Bobby Jones head that list with nine each.
