BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Symphony Orchestra will perform a “Far Away Places” concert at 7:30 p.m. April 13 in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.
This concert is the final one of the 2012-13 season.
The orchestra is participating in the Orchestras Feeding America National Food Drive. Donations of nonperishable food items will be collected at the concert and distributed to local food banks.
Guest artist Enrique Graf, a pianist from Uruguay, will be performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major.
Graf was born in Uruguay. He began studying piano at age 4 with his mother. After winning all of the national competitions in Uruguay, he was offered a full scholarship from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University and the Organization of American States to study with Leon Fleisher.
Graf won first prize in the William Kapell International Piano Competition, the National Ensemble Piano Competition and the East and West International Competition in New York.
He has given recitals all over the world and has been featured as soloist with such orchestras as the Baltimore, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and New York City symphonies.
Additionally, he has appeared at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and Carnegie Recital Hall.Musical director Matthew Kraemer will present a preconcert lecture at 6:30 p.m. It will include an overview and snippets of the music as well as insight into its meaning and symbolism.Tickets are available at the symphony office, 259 S.
