Carrol Kay Gibson Burdett

Carrol Kay Gibson Burdett, 73, of Monongahela went home Tuesday to be with the Lord.

Her final days were spent surrounded by her family and friends whose lives she had touched in some small way during the course of her own memorable life.

Kay was born on Jan. 29, 1940, to Alvin and Georgia Wagner Gibson of Karns City.

She was a graduate of Karns City High School, and she married Edward W. Burdett of Ford City on May 12, 1959.

Following her husband's call into the ministry, Kay served as a pastor's wife for 44 years. During this time, she held many positions in the churches her husband pastored, including youth leader, mission director, prayer group leader and Sunday school teacher.

Among many other interests, Kay had a love for music. From her early childhood, she exhibited a talent for singing, making two television appearances on the Wilkin's Amateur Hour, which was televised in Pittsburgh. Kay later sang in a quartet consisting of her husband, his brother, Ron Burdett, and his wife, Margie (Roudebush) Burdett. During the last several years of her life, Kay dedicated her time and talent to learning to play the piano.

Kay is survived by her husband of 53 years, the Rev. Edward W. Burdett; their children, Edward W. Burdett Jr. at home, Lisa K. and her husband, Walter S. Smith Jr., of Dawson, Pa., and John A. Burdett at home; her grandchildren, Walter S. Smith III and Holly N. Smith; great-grandson, Braydon K. Smith; brothers, Wesley “Mike” Gibson of Petrolia, Willis “Joe” Gibson of Chicora and Robert Gibson of Fairview; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Kay is preceded in death by her eldest brother, Roy Blaine Gibson.

BURDETT — Friends of Carrol Kay Gibson Burdett, who passed away Tuesday Feb. 26, 2013, will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. today in the Frye Funeral Home, 427 W. Main St., Monongahela.A prayer service will be held at the conclusion of the visitations. There will be additional visitations at the Church of God of Prophecy, 1510 Kittanning Pike, Karns City, PA 16041 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.Funeral services will be in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Connie Wilson officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Sugarcreek Township.Memorial contributions may be made to The Church of God, 531 W.
