Frank J. Ruman Sr.
Frank J. Ruman Sr., 89, of Buffalo Township passed away Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born April 27, 1923, in Niles, Ohio, and was a son of the late Stephen and Anna (Palko) Ruman. He had lived in Buffalo Township since 1959, and before that he lived in Natrona Heights.
Frank was a self-employed electrician, who also was a crane operator and welder at Pullman Standard in Butler for 25 years.
He served in the Army in World War II as a demolition expert.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Natrona Heights, where he served as an usher for several years; the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Natrona Heights, and the Slovak Club in Natrona, Pa. He served as a volunteer firefighter for Buffalo Township for 20 years.
As a young man after World War II, he formed a Polka band known as “Relax and Be Human with Frankie Ruman” and played numerous venues in the area.
He was a graduate of Niles/McKinney High School in Niles, Ohio. He enjoyed hunting, playing euchre, polka music, driving his truck and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary (Gavula) Ruman, who he married, May 8, 1948, in the St. Mathias Church, Natrona; his children, Mary Ann (George E.) Miller Jr. of Butler, Cynthia Ruman of Saxonburg and Frank Ruman Jr. of Butler; two grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Miller of Los Angeles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two younger brothers, Walter Ruman of Niles, Ohio, and William Ruman of Mineral Ridge, Ohio.
