Paul 'Red' Warnick
Paul “Red” Warnick, 100, of 1900 Ravine Road, Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Sunday.
He was born June 5, 1912, in Butler, and was the son of Raymond and Ada (Kaiser) Warnick.
Paul was married to Bess Cashdollar on July 2, 1937, in Mars. She passed away Jan. 20, 1990, after 53 years of marriage.
Paul graduated from Penn Township High School in 1930, and received a bachelor's degree in math and science from Waynesburg College in 1936. He also received a master's degree in education from Cornell University in 1948. He began teaching at Penn Township High School in 1937.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1943. He served until his discharge in June 1946 with the rank of Lt. Commander.
After graduating from Cornell University, he went to Williamsport Area High School in September 1949 to teach math. He was selected as dean of boys two years later, and he continued to teach and serve as assistant basketball coach for several years. He became principal in 1962, and retired in 1974. He was principal during the construction of the present high school in the early 1970s.
Paul was a member of the National and Pennsylvania State Education Associations. He was a member of Lodge 106, National Sojourners, Williamsport Consistory, Adoniram Council 26 and Baldwin Commandery 22. He was a member of the Faxon-Kenmar United Methodist Church. He was also a charter member and first president of the Loyalsock Township Lions Club, member of the Williamsport Rotary Club, Loyalsock Township Zoning Board and chairman for 10 years of the National Conference of Christians and Jews.
He loved sports, especially Penn State Lady Lions basketball and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was an excellent golfer, played basketball and baseball. He was also known by many as “the candy man” for the past 25 years.
Paul is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was also very close to his friends, Mark and Lorraine Roller. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary White, Catherine Dodds and Betty Waddell.
WARNICK — Friends of Paul “Red” Warnick, who passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, “A Life Celebration Home,” 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Swimley officiating.Interment will be in the Old Union Cemetery beside his wife in Mars, following a graveside service at noon on Saturday with the with Rev.
