Man guilty in shooting of officer

BEAVER — A man has been convicted of attempted murder in a shooting that wounded a police officer last year. A Beaver County newspaper said jurors there also convicted Damontae Williams, 20, of Aliquippa on Wednesday of aggravated assault, assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment, robbery and other counts. A judge later convicted him of a firearms crime. Police said he robbed a store in July and shot a pursuing Monaca officer in the leg.

Public defender Kevin Kindred argued Williams had been hit by the police cruiser, feared for his life and fired to scare the officer, not to try to kill him.
