Janice Marie Hudak
Janice Marie Hudak, 81, of Slippery Rock passed away peacefully Monday at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
She retired from Slippery Rock University in 1985 as professor emeritus of health and physical education.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Slippery Rock.
Jan was born in Bethlehem, Pa., Feb. 25, 1931, to John Stephen Hudak and Virginia Ruth (Frey) Hudak.
She attended public school in Bethlehem and graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a bachelors of science in health and physical education. She is a member of the East Stroudsburg University Athletic Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 1992 as a four-sport varsity athlete. She also earned a masters of science degree from Colorado State University.
Jan was an active member of her professional organization, the Pennsylvania Association for Health Physical Education and Recreation. She spent many years in volunteer activities in the community including: Meals on Wheels, Red Cross blood drawings and American Heart Association fundraising activities.
Jan was very active in the outdoor clubs of camping, skiing, hiking and fishing. She enjoyed reading and listening to music. Jan loved animals and belonged to many animal rights associations and supported various environmental clubs.
She is survived by daughters, Kimberley Hudak Jones of Slippery Rock and Darla Hudak Hall of Turtle Creek, Pa.; grandchildren, Emilie Webb and Madeline Webb of Slippery Rock and Chris Hall Jr. and Amber Hall of Turtle Creek, Pa.; brothers, Jack Hudak of Bethlehem, Pa., Jim Hudak of Blairsville, Ga., and Jere Hudak of Laramie, Wyo.; longtime friend Jean Hamilton of Slippery Rock; three nephews, Dale and Dean Christianson, Derek Hudak; and niece Jill Hudak.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Hudak Christianson.
