LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — Mars graduate and Siena College senior Lily Grenci was named to the first team of the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s basketball team Monday.
Grenci also was named to the conference’s all-academic team.
Grenci averaged 22.5 points and 10.5 rebounds for Siena this season.
She also is one of the finalists for the conference player of the year award, which will be announced Thursday.
In her final collegiate game Saturday, Grenci scored 28 points and added 12 rebounds against Iona.
Grenci scored 935 of her 1,074 career points in the last two seasons and was a first team all-conference selection last year, as well.
Seavey, 53, oldest to win IditarodNOME, Alaska — A 53-year-old former champion won the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race to become the oldest winner of Alaska's grueling test of endurance.Mitch Seavey and 10 dogs crossed the Nome finish line to cheering crowds at 10:39 p.m. Alaska time Tuesday.“This is for all of the gentlemen of a certain age,” he said after crossing the finish line.Seavey's victory in the 1,000-mile race came after a dueling sprint against Aliy Zirkle, last year's runner-up, along the frozen, wind-whipped Bering Sea coast toward Nome. The pair jostled for the lead, with Zirkle never more than a few miles behind. Also trailing by a dozen or so miles was four-time champion Jeff King.Seavey, who first won the Iditarod in 2004, is the father of last year's champion, Dallas Seavey, who at age 25 became the youngest Iditarod winner ever, beating Zirkle to the finish line by one hour.
NFL investigating phone call of GMsNEW YORK — The NFL is investigating the hacking of a phone conversation between general managers Buddy Nix of the Buffalo Bills and Mark Dominik of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.The call was taped by the hackers, then posted on Deadspin.com.NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy says Tuesday the league's security and legal teams are looking into Deadspin's report. The Bills say they have contacted the league and are also reviewing it with their legal counsel.
Newspaper rejects MLB's requestMIAMI — The Miami New Times has rejected a request from Major League Baseball for records that the alternative newspaper obtained for a story that alleges several players received performance-enhancing drugs from a now-closed anti-aging clinic.New Times editor Chuck Strouse's response to MLB commissioner Bud Selig appeared on the paper's website Tuesday.
