Benjamin L. Hoffman, 78, of Renfrew passed away at 12:35 a.m. Sunday at the emergency room of Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 22, 1934, in Butler and was the son of the late Lemoyne E. and M. Adele (Brewster) Hoffman.

Ben retired from Armco in 1994 after 37 years, and was on the Armco Bowling League. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and belonged to VFW Post 249 and American Legion Post 778. He was a member of the St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Rita (Altman) Hoffman; two daughters, Lori Cygan of Butler and Patty (Gregg) Doty of Renfrew; eight grandchildren, Cara, Christopher and Cayla Cygan, Abbie, Stephanie, Benjamin and Courtney Hoffman and Lynsey Doty; four great-granddaughters, Maylee, Denver and Carly Cygan and Isabella Hoffman; and a sister, Doris (Ronald) Williams of Renfrew.

He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Hoffman; a sister, Arlene Hoffman; and a brother, David J. Hoffman.

HOFFMAN — Friends of Benjamin L. Hoffman, who passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, will be received at Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.Services will be held at the St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler, at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Alden Towberman officiating.Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.Military honors will be given at the cemetery by VFW Post 249 and American Legion Post 778.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.For more information, go to www.youngfuneralhomes.com..
