Born in Valencia on May 14, 1928, the son of the late Harold Roscoe and Florence Rosebaugh Stang, he grew up in Valencia and attended Mars High School, where he met his future bride, Ruth Kind.

In high school Harold excelled in sports, lettering in both football and track. His sports success earned him an athletic scholarship at Geneva College, where he graduated with a degree in education in 1950.

Harold also volunteered at the Lighthouse Food Pantry. He was a lifetime member, trustee and organist at Valencia United Methodist Church. Harold was also a former board member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

Harold loved the game of Jeopardy and always celebrated when he got the final Jeopardy clue. He was always up for a good game of cards, especially 500, which he continued to play until his final day.
