Louis R. Mayer

Louis R. Mayer, born June 7, 1920, passed away on Saturday afternoon after a very short illness.

Louis was born in McKees Rocks, Pa., grew up in East Pittsburgh and lived for 62 years in Monroeville. He was a graduate of East Pittsburgh High School and Westinghouse Technical Night School.

Louis was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Force as a mechanic and corporal. Jimmy Doolittle test flying one of Louis' planes was a highlight of his military career.

Honorably discharged from the service, he was employed by the Westinghouse Electric Corp. in East Pittsburgh. He worked there for 39 years until his retirement.

Louis was an avid fisherman and loved to travel with his family, both internationally and throughout the United States. A trip to Alaska fulfilled one of his many dreams.

Louis was preceded in death by his father, Louis (Alois) Mayer from Neustift bei Gussing, Austria; his mother, Mary (Maria) Schmalzl from Unterbildein, Austria; and his wife, Jewell E. Davis of East Pittsburgh.

His daughter, Linda M. Matz; his son-in-law, Richard W. Matz; and his grandson, Louis C. Matz, survive.

MAYER — Louis R. Mayer passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. This spring a memorial service will be held in his honor.
