Mary A. West
Mary A. West, 96, of Butler passed away Thursday evening at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Amedisys Hospice.
Born in Butler on Sept. 27, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Stella Gallagher Stokes.
A homemaker, she had formerly worked as a waitress at the Williard Hotel. She was also formerly employed for 10 years in the Butler County personal property tax office.
She was a loving mother and grandmother, and she cherished the time she spent with her family.
She was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and AARP.
She is survived by one daughter, Kathy Galida and her husband, John, of Butler; three grandchildren, Chris Galida (Amanda) of Butler, Sharon Courtney (Chris) of Palos Heights, Ill., and Samantha West of Homewood, Ill.; seven great-grandchildren, Haleigh, Rilie, Austin, Isabella, Ava, Graham and Hattie; one sister, Hazel Mitch of Butler; one brother, Roy Stokes of Miami, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. West, who passed away in 1964; two sons, William West and James West; one grandson, Sak “Peppy” West; two brothers, Joseph Stokes and Walter Stokes; and one sister, Dorothy Kundar.
WEST — Friends of Mary A. West, who died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, will be received at the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler, from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Church. Burial will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
The women’s council of St. Peter’s will meet at the church at 9:35 a.m. Monday to recite the rosary.
