A poker benefit to help a Parker child with a rare genetic abnormality will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 64, 225 W. Jefferson St., Butler.

The fundraiser is for 8-month-old Avery Sue Cooper, daughter of Kevin and Alisha Cooper of Parker, who has had several surgeries, many tests and frequent hospitalizations.

Avery Sue has Trisomy 17 Mosaicism, and the benefit will support the family as members care for her.

Admission is free with a donation to play. The event includes a silent auction, raffles, bake sale, food and beverages.

EVANS CITY — The Evans City Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a grant of $124,830 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Department of Homeland SecurityThe money is for department operations and safety, according to U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., who announced the grant Thursday afternoon.
