Mary Jane Sole

Mary Jane Sole, 88, formerly of Penn-Mar Plaza in Mars and Richland Township, died Tuesday morning at LAS St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.

Born in Pittsburgh on May 30, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Hilda Grosskoph Funk.

She became a registered nurse upon graduating from Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing.

She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibsonia, where she sang in the choir. She was active in the Senior Center at Penn-Mar and the Little Music Group of Gibsonia. She was a music volunteer at the St. John's Specialty Care Center for 35 years.

Surviving are two sons, David Sole and his wife, Christine, of Ross Township and Russell Sole of Gibsonia; a daughter, Janine Sheaffer and her husband, Neil, of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Florence and Hazel Funk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Sole, who she married on Nov. 30, 1946, and who died on Aug. 4, 1984; her brothers, Thomas, James and Roy Funk; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Funk.

SOLE — Friends of Mary Jane Sole, who died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3832 Gibsonia Road, Gibsonia, PA 15044. The Rev. Anthony Schenck, pastor, will officiate. Please meet at the church. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
