SRU falls on road
ERIE — Gannon made the Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team said bye to its bye.
Gannon shot 60 percent from the field in the first half and The Rock fell behind 40-24 on the way to a 75-63 loss at Gannon in the regular-season finale Wednesday night.
A win for SRU would have meant a first-round bye and home-court advantage throughout the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs.
The defeat dropped SRU from a No. 1 to a No. 3 seed in the tourney, which begins Saturday.
Gerald Brooks scored 16 points to lead The Rock (19-7, 16-6), which trailed 60-36 with 11 minutes remaining in the game.
SRU, though, made a push, trimming the lead to 10 in the final minute.
Adam Blazek led Gannon (22-6, 16-6) with 25 points.
The Rock will host California (Pa.) University in the first round of the PSAC tournament at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Women’s BasketballAlexas Brown scored seven points and added eight rebounds and four assists, but The Rock closed out the season with an 80-48 loss to Gannon.SRU (4-22, 3-19) shot a mere 29 percent from the floor in the loss.Brittany Batts led Gannon (26-3, 20-2) with 17 points.
