No. 7 PSU women beat Michigan in home finale

STATE COLLEGE — Every bucket by a Penn State teammate was greeted with an enthusiastic high five from Alex Bentley, every defensive stand urged on by a fierce scowl.

The standout guard and four other seniors on the seventh-ranked Lady Lions soaked up every second of their last game on their home floor.

Junior Maggie Lucas scored 21 points, Bentley had 11 points and four steals and Penn State held off a late Michigan charge to clinch at least a share of its second straight Big Ten regular-season title on Senior Day with a 68-57 win Sunday.

The Jordan Center “is like our second home. We might as well live here all year,” said Bentley, wearing a new “Big Ten championship” cap. “I’m just glad the way we went out ... I’m really excited right now, I don’t know what to say.”

This senior class will close out their careers going 14-0 at home this season and the comfort of knowing that they helped rebuild Penn State back into a Big Ten force. The 14,000-plus fans obliged with an extended standing ovation during a postgame ceremony, with blue-and-white confetti strewn across the floor.

All Penn State (23-3, 13-1) needs now is to beat Minnesota on the road Thursday night to clinch the conference crown outright.
