Rock men roll past Cal, 85-53
Darious Clark and Gerald Brooks each netted 17 points while Devin Taylor added 14 points and 14 rebounds to power the Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team to an 85-53 victory over California, Pa. Wednesday.
Taylor needed just four points to eclipse the 1,000-point barrier for his career and secured his 10th double-double of the season.
SRU (18-6, 15-5) stormed out to a 45-21 halftime lead.
John Bayardelle and Sa’Quan Davis added 12 and 11 points, respectively for The Rock, which out-rebounded the Vulcans 51-25.
Cal (10-14, 9-11) received 12 points from Mitchell Weedon and 10 apiece from Keith Lowe and Tynell Fortune.
Women’s BasketballCalifornia (Pa.) used a 23-0 run in the middle portion of its contest against Slippery Rock to pull away in a 78-55 PSAC-West decision Wednesday.The Rock (4-20, 3-17) held a 34-30 advantage with 2:48 left before halftime before the host Vulcans (17-7, 13-7)embarked on their run over the next 10 minutes, 31 seconds. The loss was SRU’s 11th in a row.Simone Aladenoye led SRU with 10 points and seven rebounds while Erinne Cunningham added 10 points.
