County residents pack cast of PMT's 'Eden'
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Musical Theater, in collaboration with Robert Morris University, presents the Stephen Schwartz musical “Children of Eden” March 7 to 17 at the Byham Theater, 101 Sixth St.
Freely based on the Book of Genesis, “Children of Eden” is a frank and often humorous treatment of the journeys of Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, Noah and his sons and the Father who created them.
Brady Patsy of East Brady will be appearing in the role of God.
Coincidentally, he directed and appeared in “Children of Eden” for the Butler Musical Theatre Guild in October.
“I directed it for the MTG and I also played the role of Father,” Patsy said.
“I definitely think the knowledge of the show helped me ... get this role. It’s very nice to revisit the role and not have the stress of directing and just focus on the role.”
This is Patsy’s seventh year with the PMT acting troupe.
“This is definitely the largest role I’ve ever played for them,” Patsy said.
His other PMT credits include “Hairspray” as Edna Turnblad, “Beauty and the Beast” as Cogsworth, and “Jesus Christ Superstar” as Peter.
In addition to acting, Patsy teaches at a charter school in Pittsburgh, teaches acting through PMT, and teaches voice and acting privately.
“I teach the normal school day, after school I teach voice and acting, then do the show at night,” he said.
His busy schedule won’t slow down much when the show ends.
“Days after ‘Children of Eden’ closes, I’ll start music directing for ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ the next show at PMT,” he said.
And he’s in discussions with PMT about some sort of role in the company’s May show, “Tarzan.”
“I’d love to be involved with that show; it’s never been done in this area before.”
Other Butler County residents bringing “Children of Eden” to the stage are: Brecken Farrell of Saxonburg; Jessica Ortiz of Penn Township; Amanda Sybert and Daniel Terwilliger, both of Butler; Amy and Andre Parker of Nixon; and Victoria English of Karns City.
Direction is by Ken Gargaro, choreography by Colleen Petrucci, and musical direction by Brent Alexander.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. March 7, 8, 9, 15 and 16 and at 2 p.m. March 10 and 17.
Tickets range from $12 to $44 and are available by calling 412-456-6666 or visiting pittsburghmusicals.com/tix-eden.
